Therapy and Rehabilitation Clinic

FAQS

HOW LONG AND HOW MANY TIMES A WEEK IS A TYPICAL SESSION?

Sessions are usually 60 minutes. Most patients are seen two or three times per week in the beginning, then, as time goes on, less frequently. The number of sessions depends on what your current needs are.

HOW LONG WILL I BE IN PHYSICAL THERAPY?

The length of time a client is in physical therapy depends on the nature of the problem and the goals of the therapy. Some clients have a very specific problem that can be worked through in a short period of therapy. For extensive problems therapy will last for a longer period.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR FOR MY FIRST THERAPY SESSION?

On your first visit, you should wear comfortable clothing that will allow you to move i.e. t-shirt, shorts/sweatpants and sneakers.  We have areas for you to change if you are arriving after work. Expect to do some exercise on your first visit, after the evaluation it is common to have a treatment as well which will likely consist of stretching, and/or strengthening and some manual therapy.   Please try to arrive 10 minutes early for your first visit, there are intake forms to fill out as well as some insurances have specific questionaires to fill out.  Please see the FORMS page for downloadable intake forms.

HOW MUCH ARE YOUR COPAYS AND DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?

Your copay depends on the type of insurance you have and is dictated by your insurance company.  We are in-network with most insurances, including Blue Cross, United Healthcare, Medicare, Aetna, Cigna, Tricare, Beacon Worker's Comp and many others, please call or email with any specific insurance questions.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER MY FIRST FEW SESSIONS?Typically, most patients are sore after the first few treatments, this is similar to what you would expect after starting any exercise program.  If you have concerns, you should talk with your therapist during your session.

HOW IS MY DOCTOR INFORMED OF MY PROGRESS?

A copy of your initial evaluation will be faxed or mailed to your referring physician, as well as regular re-evaluations (typically every 6-8 visits).

MY DOCTOR GAVE ME A REFERRAL FOR THERAPY, WHERE DO I GO?

You have the right to choose any therapy provider that you want to.

DO I NEED A SCRIPT FOR PHYSICAL THERAPY?

In Rhode Island, you do not need a script/referral to begin physical therapy.  Some insurance companies will pay for therapy services without a referral.  Other insurers, including Medicare, require a referral before they will pay for therapy services.
